The Disc Granulator

VEST’s disc granulators (also called pan granulators) are the equipment of choice for converting powdered materials into uniform, round granules.

Working Principle

The pan granulator uses a pressureless (tumbling growth) agglomeration method. The material tumbles on a rotating disc while a binder and raw materials are continuously added. The binder thickens the fine powder (or seed particles when a pretreatment step is used) and attracts additional fine powder as the material tumbles. This results in a “growth” process known as agglomeration. Once the particles reach the desired size, they are removed from the rotating disc by centrifugal force.

The main factors affecting the pan granulator are disc diameter, disc inclination, disc edge height, rotation speed, feeding position, scraper position and so on.
